Quino E. Martinez Scholarship Application

Supports one full-time undergraduate student at the junior or senior level and one graduate student for two semesters. The recipient must be enrolled in the Spanish degree program at the School of International Letters and Cultures. Quino E. Martinez was an ASU Spanish professor (1957–1988), war hero and first-generation college student who benefited from the GI Bill when pursuing his studies. This scholarship is meant to similarly give substantial financial assistance to students pursuing a degree in Spanish.

ASU Online students from AZ, CO, TX or NM are eligible to apply.

To apply: Complete the application form in its entirety and submit the statement of interest. 

Please include a one-page typed essay that includes responses to the following questions:

  • What are your educational and career goals?
  • What was the inspiration leading you to focus on your current studies?
  • What have you learned about yourself as a student at ASU?
  • How do you plan to use your studies to achieve your future career plans?
  • What are your major accomplishments, and why do you consider them accomplishments?
  • What are your most important extracurricular or community activities?
  • What obstacles have you overcome to reach this point in your life?
  • If you receive this award or any other award during your college career, how do you think you could "pay it forward" to help others when you are able? 

Note: This scholarship will be disbursed over two semesters in the academic year. The total award is for $2,300–$2,500. A thank you note to the Martinez family with a student photo included is required of the scholarship recipient within one month of being notified of the award.
